BASED ON THE NOVEL "GIRL IN HYACINTH BLUE" Inspired by love, sold in desperation, bought in passion and stolen in greed: this priceless masterpiece has played a pivotal role in the lives of everyone who has owned it. As he settles into his new job at an American prep school, an art teacher, (Thomas Gibson) is approached by a reclusive historian Cornelia Engelbrecht (Glenn Close, Sarah, Plain and Tall) who believes he alone will appreciate a secret treasure she has long guarded - an unknown Vermeer painting. Although Richard is overwhelmed by its beauty, he doubts its authenticity. How could such a masterpiece be hidden for centuries? Drawing upon a lifetime of singularly focused devotion to its history, Cornelia reveals the secrets behind the mystery of "Girl in Hyacinth Blue." From the moment three centuries ago when an impoverished Dutch artist painted the beautiful image of his daughter seated at an open window, the legendary masterpiece has been admired, coveted and pursued by its owners - from impoverished farmers to a wealthy society woman (Ellen Burstyn). All forever entwined in its legacy and unknowing participants in its future. Based on Susan Vreeland's best-selling novel, Brush With Fate traces the history of a masterpiece that has changed many lives, but still has a greater secret yet to reveal.

Based on the novel by Sloan Wilson, The Man in the Gray Flannel Suit stars Gregory Peck as a haunted New York executive whp defies convention and decides his family is more important than his career in this post-war melodrama scripted and directed by the celebrated Nunnally Johnson (The Three Faces of Eve).

Description
Gregory Peck plays a young New York executive who defies the wisdom of the corporate class by deciding his family is more important than the offer of a new job. Lots of melodrama, guilt, and a revelation about a wartime affair (told in flashback), but this well-oiled, good-looking 1956 film still holds up pretty well. Based on a novel by Sloan Wilson, the script and direction are by Nunnally Johnson (The Three Faces of Eve). --Tom Keogh

Off Season Customer Review
The screenplay justifiably won an Emmy. The movie was nominated for five (5) Emmies and won two (2). The dialog is brilliant and the leading characters are very appealing. It is one of the best movies that I have ever seen (I am reviewing the movie, not the DVD). It is a movie that the whole family would really enjoy.
The plot twist at the end is wonderful.

Dexter Riley (Kurt Russell), a handsome but bumbling Medfield College student, accidentally becomes The Computer Who Knew Too Much when he is effortlessly transformed from half-wit to genius in an electriyfing computer mishap. Gamblers, gangsters, and greedy college deans are quick to fight for control of his computer-like brain ... especially when Dexter nonchalantly starts blabbing the syndicate's secrets! A riotous comedy, programmed for hours of laughter and fun!

Description
He's Dexter Riley (Kurt Russell), just a regular-guy college student at Medfield College--until one fateful night he is accidentally transformed into a human computer. His newfound genius makes him an overnight sensation when he gets all the answers right on a college quiz show. This instant celebrity status also brings an instant massive ego, which threatens his friendships as well as his safety. Caught up between battling college deans (Joe Flynn and Alan Hewitt) and a dangerous mobster (Cesar Romero), Dexter soon learns friends are more valuable than money. This movie, released in 1970, is a true romp with silly situations and madcap misadventures. The size of the computer itself is now good for a sight gag. It's likable but goofy, with no real weight. A fun, innocent diversion that the whole family can look and laugh at, each for different reasons. Did people really dress like that? --Peggy Maltby-Etra

Get ready for a hilarious and heartwarming royal reality check in Princess Protection Program, the new smash-hit Disney Channel Original Movie starring Selena Gomez, Wizards Of Waverly Place, and Demi Lovato, Sonny With A Chance. Plus, this Royal B.F.F. Extended Edition DVD features an insider s look at the realities and responsibilities of being a real-life princess and lets you listen in as real-life best friends Selena and Demi dish about their lives on and off the set!
The worlds of royalty and roughing-it collide when the lovely Rosalinda, Lovato enters the Princess Protection Program and moves in with her new cousin Carter, Gomez, a total tomboy. In an unexpected role reversal, Rosie learns how to act like an everyday girl and Carter finds her own inner princess. Once they discover what they have in common, they prove that best friends really are forever.

Description
What teenager doesn't dream of someday making a difference in the world? While one would assume that Princess Rosalinda (Demi Lovato) has a better chance of achieving that dream than regular Louisiana teenager Carter Mason (Selena Gomez), life is very unpredictable. Carter is a tomboy who lives with her dad, Major Mason (Tom Verica), and works in his bait shop. She’s a fairly typical teenager who’s crushing on a boy who barely knows she exists, and she has a strong aversion to her shallow and ultra-popular classmates Chelsea (Jamie Chung) and Brooke (Samantha Droke). Carter's dad works for the virtually unknown International Princess Protection Program and when he's called away on an emergency mission, he returns with rescued Princess-in-distress Rosalinda Maria Montoya Fiore (Demi Lovato) whose ascension to the throne of small island country Costa Luna is in peril thanks to militant dictator General Magnus Kane (Johnny Ray). Clueless dad that he is, Major Mason has no idea of how upset Carter will be at the intrusion of a total stranger into her life or of how difficult it will be for ""Rosie"" to blend in and pretend she's an average American teenager. While Carter and Rosie take an immediate dislike to one another, they eventually realize that they are not so inherently different and they join forces against Chelsea and Brooke, becoming friends in the process. When Princess Rosalinda's cover is blown, it's Carter who engineers a dangerous plan that could make a huge difference in her friend's future and the future of Costa Luna.
A Disney Channel Original Movie about finding what one has to offer the world and then giving it freely, Princess Protection Program is a nicely crafted, entertaining, and inspirational film for tweens and young teens. Bonus features include a look at the relationship between real-life best friends Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato, an examination of what being a modern princess is really all about, including interview footage with real-life princess India Oxenberg, and Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato's music video ""One and the Same."" --Tami Horiuchi

The Buttercream Gang Customer Review
OK, so it's cheesy. It's lame at times. The first time I saw it, I thought, "Dumb!"
However, this movie gets better with time. It has heroes, damsels in distress, villians, great morals, and a idyllic view of small town Midwestern America (without the bitter Sinclair Lewis flavor). Now that I'm 10-12 years older, this is one of those feel-good movies that make you think, "I can do it!"
And if the 'realism' of the ending bothers you, I really suggest you stay away from most TV in general.

The Harry Potter Collection is a set of Years 1-3, including each of the three 2-disc sets of Harry Potter 1, Harry Potter 2, Harry Potter 3.

Description
The filmed version of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, adapted from the wildly popular book by J.K. Rowling, stunningly brings to life Harry Potter's world of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The greatest strength of the film comes from its faithfulness to the novel, and this new cinematic world is filled with all the details of Rowling's imagination, thanks to exuberant sets, elaborate costumes, clever makeup and visual effects, and a crème de la crème cast, including Maggie Smith, Richard Harris, Alan Rickman, and more. Especially fine is the interplay between Harry (Daniel Radcliffe) and his schoolmates Ron (Rupert Grint) and Hermione (Emma Watson), as well as his protector, the looming Hagrid (Robbie Coltrane). The second-half adventure--involving the titular sorcerer's stone--doesn't translate perfectly from page to screen, ultimately because of the film's fidelity to the novel; this is a case of making a movie for the book's fans, as opposed to a transcending film. Writer Steve Kloves and director Chris Columbus keep the spooks in check, making this a true family film, and with its resourceful hero wide-eyed and ready, one can't wait for Harry's return.
First sequels are the true test of an enduring movie franchise, and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets passes with flying colors. Harry's second year at Hogwarts involves a darker, more malevolent tale (parents with younger children beware), beginning with the petrified bodies of several Hogwarts students and magical clues leading Harry, Ron, and Hermione to a 50-year-old mystery in the monster-laden Chamber of Secrets. House elves, squealing mandrakes, giant spiders, and venomous serpents populate this loyal adaptation (by director Chris Columbus and screenwriter Steve Kloves), and Kenneth Branagh delightfully tops the supreme supporting cast as the vainglorious charlatan Gilderoy Lockhart. At 161 minutes, the film suffers from lack of depth and uneven pacing, and John Williams's score mostly reprises established themes. The young, fast-growing cast offers ample compensation, however, as does the late Richard Harris in his final screen appearance as Professor Albus Dumbledore. Brimming with cleverness, wonderment, and big-budget splendor, Chamber honors the legacy of J.K. Rowling's novels.
Some movie-loving wizards must have cast a magic spell on Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, because it's another grand slam for the Harry Potter franchise. Demonstrating remarkable versatility after the arthouse success of Y Tu Mamá También, director Alfonso Cuarón proves a perfect choice to guide Harry, Hermione, and Ron into treacherous puberty as the now 13-year-old students at Hogwarts face a new and daunting challenge: Sirius Black (Gary Oldman) has escaped from Azkaban prison, and for reasons yet unknown (unless, of course, you've read J.K. Rowling's book, considered by many to be the best in the series), he's after Harry in a bid for revenge. This dark and dangerous mystery drives the action while Harry and his third-year classmates discover the flying hippogriff Buckbeak (a marvelous CGI creature), the benevolent but enigmatic Professor Lupin (David Thewlis), horrifying black-robed Dementors, sneaky Peter Pettigrew (Timothy Spall), and the wonderful advantage of having a Time-Turner just when you need one. The familiar Hogwarts staff returns in fine form (including the delightful Michael Gambon, replacing the late Richard Harris as Dumbledore, and Emma Thompson as the goggle-eyed Sybil Trelawney), and even Julie Christie joins this prestigious production for a brief but welcome cameo. Technically dazzling, fast-paced, and chock-full of Rowling's boundless imagination, The Prisoner of Azkaban is a Potter-movie classic. (Ages 8 and older)
Harry Potter Years 1-3 Customer Review
